Marjan is an Afghan refugee who escaped the Taliban in January 2021. She began creating art as a therapeutic tool to help adjust to the United States. Today, she sells her art all over the world.

You’ll quickly see the beauty of Marjan’s aesthetic and her facility to capture the personality of her subjects. Marjan trained as a psychologist at the University of Ishraq, and was a practicing therapist – an independent modern woman – until she was restricted in her profession by the regime. She was lucky to flee to the United States, where she is beginning her new life in Southern California.

“Marjan” is the Farsi word for “coral” — hence the name “Coral Drawing.” Marjan loves the meaning of her name due to the beauty and strength associated with coral reefs, symbolizing a resilient yet graceful nature.

You can help Marjan and her family thrive in her adopted country by commissioning a custom portrait of a loved one or a beloved pet.
